Contract Duration: Visiting professionals are required to work on a full time basis for a period between three and six months. The Opportunity The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and, where warranted, tries individual charges with the gravest crimes of concerns to the international community: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes of aggression. The Court is participating in the global fight to end impunity, and through international criminal justice, the Court aims to hold those responsible accountable for their crimes and to help prevent the crimes from happening again. You can contribute to this cause by joining the ICC Organisational Context : Within the Registry and under the direct supervision of the Director of External Operations, the Public Information and Outreach Section (PIOS) ensures that the proceedings are accessible to the public, raises awareness, and promotes an understanding about the Court’s mandate and activities with the ultimate goal of getting support. It does so in relation to a number of target audiences, including global audiences, mainly encompassing international press and media, victims and communities affected by crimes within the jurisdiction of the Court; and key stakeholders such as legal communities, academics and non-governmental organisations.  PIOS achieves its objectives through the use of a variety of communication means including granting interviews to media, production of press releases and other publications and audio visual materials as well as through the website and new social media platforms. PIOS also organises campaigns and is responsible for the organisation of events and visits ranging from general groups to high profile visitors. Duties and Responsibilities : Project support : •  Support for major projects in the communications team such as developing the ICC’s Youth and Academic programs, virtual visits, exhibits and multimedia story series on a range of topics including the legal process, e-Court system, working at the Court and stories from the field, and social media campaigns on various themes such as SDG16: Peace and Justice. Media monitoring: •   Monitoring media and formatting the ICC Daily Press Review, featuring news articles relevant to developments in the ICC’s situation countries, as well as media coverage of the Court’s activities and proceedings (in English and French) Website and social media: •   Monitoring social media and support with compiling reports •   Support new website/social media projects, assisting in designing infographics and visuals and/or or drafting content •   Assist with photography projects including researching, identifying and proposing use of external photography, compiling selected photos for specific themes and projects, assist in securing permission to use external photographs •  Assist with video projects including drafting scripts and storyboards, capturing relevant clips for social media, uploading archive of videos onto our server and ad hoc support for social media and campaign videos General assistance: •   Help maintain the Public Affairs Unit mailing list and contacts database/networking system •   Assisting journalists at the Court’s Information Desk during key public hearings, providing them with badges to access the media centre and other practical information •   Escorting visitors and arranging meetings when necessary •   Take notes at specific meetings •   Provide other assistance as requested Required Qualifications : Education: All Candidates must have a degree from a recognized university. Candidates are expected to have a very good record of academic performance. Experience: Visiting Professional placements focus on candidates who have extensive experience in their professional careers in relevant fields of work. Practical experience that is relevant to the work of the Court may be considered an asset. Candidates for a Visiting Professional placement must have at least 3 (three) years of relevant professional experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: •  Adaptability to a multicultural and multilingual working environment encompassing the principal legal traditions of the world. •  Ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently. •  A good standard of computer literacy (especially Microsoft Office applications) •  Other important qualities are discretion, reliability, intellectual rigor, precision, perseverance, honesty, creativity, co-operative spirit and integrity. Knowledge of Languages: Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, French or English, is required. Working knowledge of the other is considered an asset. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) is an asset. Knowlege of Filipino and/or Cebuano is required. The list can be foundhere. Remuneration Please note that internship and visiting professional placements at the ICC are unfunded. The ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with any remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior, during or after the internship or visiting professional placement. Applicants must therefore be able to support themselves for the entire duration of their internship or visiting professional placement.
