Intern, Communications Communications, Partnerships and Reporting (CPR) Unit DUTY STATION (City, Country): Bridgetown, Barbados BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT: In 2018, WFP re-established its presence in the Caribbean with an office in Barbados. The WFP Caribbean Multi-Country Office (MCO) supports 22 countries and territories across the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. WFP Caribbean's capacity strengthening programme focuses on vulnerability analysis and mapping, end-to-end supply chain management, shock-responsive social protection, food systems strengthening, and climate risk financing. During emergencies, WFP supports governments and partners by providing food, cash or voucher assistance, emergency logistics, and emergency telecommunications services when national and regional capacities are exceeded. The Intern will support the office in strengthening internal and external communications, enhancing visibility and stakeholder engagement, and improving knowledge management practices. The intern will provide creative support through the development of visual content, social media materials, and communication products, while also assisting with information management. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive): - As part of the Communications, Partnerships and Reporting (CPR) Team, you will: - Develop and design visual content (graphics, infographics, presentations, flyers). - Assist with drafting and editing communication materials. - Support branding consistency across all communications. - Development of short videos, images and/or infographics to communicate WFP's work. - Support the planning and implementation of communications and advocacy campaigns. - Support the capture, documentation, and dissemination of lessons learned, good practices, and success stories to promote organizational learning and knowledge sharing. - Assist in the organization and maintenance of knowledge management systems and repositories to improve information accessibility, retrieval, and institutional memory. - Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, WeLearn. - At the end of the assignment, the Intern should: - Have a greater understanding of the World Food Programme's work and its role within the wider humanitarian system. - Gain practical experience in communications, visibility, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement within a United Nations environment. - Cultivate effective communication skills and professionalism essential for workplace interactions and success. - Enhance problem-solving and critical thinking abilities through addressing queries and contributing to process improvements. - Develop a deeper understanding of how communications and knowledge management contribute to organizational effectiveness, decision-making, and programme impact. DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE: - Experience in communications, graphic design, digital content creation, or a related field. - Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and Microsoft Office applications. - Familiarity with social media management and content development for digital platforms. - Basic understanding of knowledge management, information organization, and knowledge-sharing practices. - Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. - Ability to manage multiple priorities, work collaboratively in a team environment, and perform effectively under pressure, including during emergency situations. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: - Creativity and innovation - Initiative and reliability - Teamwork and collaboration - Adaptability in fast-paced environments - Problem-solving mindset STANDARD MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: a. Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme (for example, Bachelor's degree) from a recognised university and have completed at least two years of the programme. Candidates should have attended classes in the past 12 months; b. Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (for example, Master degree) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the past 12 months; c. Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognised university and have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment in the university. d. Be fluent in English. Fluency in other WFP official and working languages is always an asset but nor required. e. Be available to work full time for a period of 6 months in the WFP Caribbean office. f. Not be sons, daughters, brothers or sisters of WFP employees; Desired Areas of study: Communications, Multimedia Production, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Media, Information Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, Library and Information Science, or a related field. The Programme will recognize candidates' educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education; No professional work experience is required. Relevant academic, volunteer, research or internship experience in data analysis, monitoring, research, reporting or programme support is desirable. - Good computer knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. - Experience with graphic design and videography software is considered an asset. - Strong problem solving and communication skills (written and spoken English) - Basic knowledge of digital content management, informat
