Mission and objectives:
- UNHCR is mandated to protect people forced to flee and stateless persons, safeguard their rights and support solutions to displacement. In India, UNHCR works with the Government, UN entities, civil society, refugee-led organizations and other stakeholders to strengthen protection, promote inclusion and advance solutions for refugees and asylum-seekers. Reliable data, analysis and evidence are essential to understand needs and risks, monitor progress, improve programme quality and inform decision-making, reporting and advocacy.
- The UN Volunteer will support UNHCR India in strengthening the collection, management, analysis and use of operational and programme data. The assignment combines data analysis with monitoring and evaluation support and will contribute to the production of credible evidence on UNHCR results and on the situation of the people with and for whom UNHCR works. The UN Volunteer will work with colleagues across functions and, as appropriate, with partners to help maintain data sets and information products, support monitoring activities, review data quality and translate findings into accessible analysis for planning, reporting and programme improvement.
- This is an entry-level, learning-oriented assignment. The UN Volunteer will work under close supervision and receive structured guidance, mentoring and feedback. Tasks will be undertaken in accordance with UNHCR policies and guidance, including applicable data protection, confidentiality, ethical and information-security standards.
- Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, the UN Associate Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- • Support the compilation, cleaning, validation, organization and analysis of operational, pro-gramme and monitoring data from relevant UNHCR units and partners.
- • Contribute to routine data-quality checks by identifying missing, inconsistent or duplicate in-formation and documenting issues for review by the supervisor and responsible colleagues.
- • Support the preparation of summary statistics, tables, charts, dashboards, maps or other in-formation products for internal planning, management review, reporting and advocacy.
- • Assist in analysing quantitative and qualitative information to identify trends, gaps and emerging issues, and help present findings in clear, accessible formats for technical and non-technical audiences.
- • Support Results Managers and relevant colleagues with indicator tracking, results monitoring and the systematic documentation of data sources, calculation methods and evidence.
- • Contribute to the design and implementation of data-collection and monitoring activities, including assessments, implementation monitoring, results monitoring and feedback exercises, as required.
- • Assist in reviewing data-collection tools and forms for clarity, consistency and alignment with identified information needs, applicable standards and data-protection requirements.
- • Support the consolidation of information received from UNHCR units and partners for periodic reports, monitoring updates, presentations and evidence-based management discussions.
- • Contribute to participatory and inclusive approaches to monitoring by supporting the organization and documentation of consultations with refugees, asylum-seekers, partners and other stakeholders, where applicable.
- • Assist in maintaining an organized evidence base for monitoring, assessments and evaluations, including filing relevant source documents, outputs and follow-up actions.
- • Participate in team meetings, learning sessions and relevant coordination processes, and pre-pare concise notes or action trackers when requested.
- • Support the preparation of guidance, learning materials or practical sessions on data management, data quality, analysis and monitoring for UNHCR colleagues and partners.
- • Handle all individual-level, sensitive and confidential information in strict accordance with UN-HCR data-protection and information-security requirements, and promptly raise any data-quality, protection or ethical concern with the supervisor.
- • Perform other related supporting duties as required, consistent with the learning objectives and level of the assignment.
- Candidate must be a national, legal resident or hold refugee status in the country of assignment.
Additional eligibility criteria:
- This assignment is funded by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and therefore only students currently enrolled at KIIT University are eligible to apply.
- Students from Scheduled Tribes communities are especially encouraged to apply.

- English, Level: Fluent, Required
Required education level:
- Bachelor's degree in (Currently studying) in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Pro-gramme/Project Management, or other relevant field.

Skills and experience:
- Demonstrated interest and/or experience in:
- • Data collection, data cleaning, data analysis, statistics, monitoring and evaluation, research or results-based management.
- • Using data to identify trends and communicate findings through concise written analysis or vis-ual products.
- • Humanitarian, development, social-policy or inclusion issues would be an asset.
- • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.
- • Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet software; familiarity with formulas, pivot tables, charts or data validation is desirable.
- • Clear written and verbal communication, attention to detail and analytical thinking.
- • One or more data-visualization, statistical, database, GIS or digital data-collection tools would be an asset, but is not required.
- • Working collaboratively, learning new systems and handling confidential information responsibly.
