Org. Setting and Reporting:UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA's services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance. UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with more than 30,000 staff. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions. The incumbent is responsible to the Head of Area Education Officer or the designated officer.
Responsibilities:In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent: 1- Develops a plan of action at the level of his/her functional location and coordinates such actions with UNRWA’s staff therein. 2- Provides guidance and counselling to individuals and groups and conducts home visits, as appropriate. 3- Coordinates work with contracted NGOs. 4- Contributes to the expansion of the network of resources in the community through coordination activities with workers in the psychosocial field. 5- Develops and conducts activities to raise the awareness in the community as related to mental health, psychosocial well-being, optimum development of children and adolescents. 6- Develops plans for quick crisis intervention, whenever needed, mobilizing if appropriate, program counsellors working in other functional locations in the same region, as well as other resources in the community. 7- Prepares monthly reports. 8- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Education:A university degree from an accredited educational institution in psychology, social work or a related field.

Special Notice:- Contract Type: Daily Paid Assignment for up to three months, with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and continuing need. - Grade and Salary: Grade 10 Daily Rate 27.12 USD. The salary may be subject to a reduced work schedule. Additional benefits: - 1 day Annual Leave and 1 day of sick leave for each completed month of service. * Equivalency: Equivalency may apply for this post. NB: Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.
