To respond to these challenges, UNDP in Papua New Guinea concentrates its efforts on building the country's capacity to promote inclusive, green, and pro-poor growth, effective governance, and sustainable and resilient development. We help our partners in identifying relevant solutions to complex development challenges and offer policy and implementation services to address these challenges. Guided by the UNDP's Country Programme Document for Papua New Guinea 2024-2028, the Country Office's policy, advisory, programmatic, and implementation services focuses on the following areas: - Peace: promoting inclusive governance, justice, and peace - Prosperity: inclusive, greed and sustainable growth - Planet: sustainable management of natural resources, biodiversity conservation, strengthened climate and disaster resilience and management. In addition to these areas of focus which reflect country's developmental priorities, UNDP emphasizes gender, climate change, social protection and inclusive growth, in all aspects of our work. Duties and Responsibilities The Communications Assistant will support the Communications Team in producing and disseminating high-quality communications materials that showcase UNDP's work in Papua New Guinea. Under the guidance of the Communications Team, the incumbent will contribute to the following key areas:1. Support the production of audiovisual and digital content for UNDP Papua New Guinea's social media channels - Support the production of video, photography, reels, social media cards and other digital content highlighting UNDP's work and results in Papua New Guinea. - Support the launch, maintenance and regular production of content for UNDP Papua New Guinea's TikTok channel. - Contribute to the day-to-day management and monitoring of UNDP PNG's existing social media channels, including Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube. - Support the adaptation and dissemination of communications materials across UNDP PNG's different digital platforms. 2. Support field coverage and storytelling on UNDP's work across Papua New Guinea - Undertake regular travel to UNDP project sites around Papua New Guinea to capture video, photography and other materials showcasing UNDP's work and its impact. - During field missions, support the Communications Team in conducting interviews and gathering information from UNDP partners, beneficiaries and other stakeholders. - Contribute to the development of human interest stories, social media content and other communications products based on field visits and project activities. - Regularly attend UNDP events and engagements to capture audiovisual materials for use across the Country Office's communications channels. 3. Support UNDP Papua New Guinea's media engagement and outreach - Support the Communications Team in maintaining regular contact with national and international media outlets based in Papua New Guinea. - Assist in preparing and disseminating press releases, media advisories, story pitches and other materials for media outreach. - Support the organization and coverage of media interviews, press briefings and other media engagement activities. 4. Support internal and external communications and knowledge sharing - Support senior management and Country Office colleagues with internal communication materials and activities, as required. - Contribute to the preparation of blogs, think pieces, human interest stories and other written communications materials for the Country Office. - Support the organization, documentation and dissemination of communications materials and knowledge products produced by the Country Office. 5. Provide general support to the Communications Team - Provide administrative and logistical support for communications activities, events, field missions and other outreach initiatives as required. - Maintain and organize audiovisual and communications materials and files to facilitate their effective use and retrieval. - Support other communications-related activities within the incumbent's functional profile, as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization. Partnerships Management Build and maintain partnerships with wide networks of stakeholders, Governments, civil society and private sector partners, experts and others in line with UNDP strategy and policies Data storytelling and communications Skilled in building a narrative around a set of data and its accompanying visualizations to help convey the meaning of that data in a powerful and compelling fashion Ability to empathise with people's perceptions, motivations, feelings and mental models and craft narratives to build an emotive argument for change accordingly. Ability to present data, insights or information in compelling ways to mobilise resources, talent or action. Ability to choose media and channels that is fit for purpose to reach specific target audiences. Social Media management Ability to represent and promote the UNDP brand in virtual communities and networks Partnership management Relationship management Ability to engage with a wide range of public and private partners, build, sustain and/or strengthen working relations, trust and mutual understanding Required Skills and Experience - Secondary (high school) education is required. Or - A first university degree (bachelor's degree) in Arts, Communications, Journalism Studies and/o related fields, will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement. Min.
