Org. Setting and Reporting:This position is located in the Strategic Communications Section in the Office of the Director for Coordination and Shared Services in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and the Department of Peace Operations. The incumbent reports directly to the Chief of Unit. The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) focuses primarily on five action areas in international peace and security, ensuring sound analysis and early warning, preventing conflict and engaging in peacemaking, managing political crises and violent conflicts, sustaining peace, and enhancing partnerships. The Department's mandate is to prevent and resolve conflict through inclusive political solutions. The Department of Peace Operations (DPO) provides political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations around the world and maintains contact with the Security Council, troop and financial contributors, and parties to the conflict in the implementation of Security Council mandates. The Department works to integrate the efforts of UN, governmental and nongovernmental entities in the context of peacekeeping operations. DPO also provides guidance and support on military, police, rule of law, mine action and other relevant issues to other UN political and peacebuilding missions.
Responsibilities:Performs desktop publishing functions, in English and French including incorporating corrections and formatting documents, social media and website content, in desktop publishing formats, in accordance with existing guidelines.Performs proofreading functions by checking successive versions of edited and translated documents and digital content against previous versions, as appropriate, in accordance with existing guidelines.Assists the Public information Officers in the planning, distribution of work, including by monitoring the progress of work from field missions, as requested, and assists in ensuring the smooth electronic transmission and processing of documentation and digital content.Compiles and scopes final documents and digital content against the submitted document.Aligns bi-texts in order to support the production of high-quality translation memories and related workflow improvements.Performs other modified desktop publishing functions developed through workflow reviews.Inputs data on field missions into databases and assists in the analysis of data, as well as the preparation of data presentations and reports, for information-sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision-making.Collaborates with team members to perform, under supervision, the full range of office support, administrative and clerical functions, when required.Provide support in handling queries from Department and field missions, maintaining process documents and records, as needed.Undertakes cross-assignments to perform, under guidance, other language support functions, and translation of documents and digital content From English to French and French to English.Contributes to the effective use of relevant language technologies and tools, by actively applying those technologies, and shows willingness to learn new software, as needed.Stays available for assignments and shifts, depending on the exigencies of service, including outside normal working hours.Works effectively in in-person, remote or hybrid teams, as needed.Performs other related work as required.
