## Assistant Political Affairs Officer, Tripoli, Libya

Org. Setting and Reporting:These positions are located within the Political Affairs Service (PAS) of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). The positions are located in Tripoli and Benghazi, Libya. Benghazi: the incumbent will report to the Political Affairs Officer. Tripoli: the incumbent will report to a Senior Political Affairs Officer.
Responsibilities:Within the limit of the delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible of the following tasks:Receives and summarizes information contained in communications and publications from different sources, including the press and social media; maintains up-to-date knowledge of events relating to political issues in a specified area or subject matter.Assists senior officers with preparing drafts, briefing notes, correspondence, reports, background papers and talking points.Prepares summaries of articles from a wide variety of sources and drafts a variety of correspondence, and sections of reports.Monitors political, socio-economic, and other politically relevant developments in an assigned area.Supports preparation for official meetings, events and field visits.Provides input into political, humanitarian and economic efforts and programmes.Performs other related duties as required.

Education:A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution, or a related area is required for candidates holding a first-level university degree (First-level degree or equivalent). Candidates holding an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, management or development, or a related field may be accepted with two (2) years less relevant work experience.
Job - Specific Qualification:Professional training in the areas of planning, monitoring and evaluation, facilitation and /or coordination is desirable.
Work Experience:Two years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area is required. Previous/current involvement in and/or provision of support to political dialogue and/or reconciliation processes in Libya is required. Experience of working in a United Nations common system field operation - or similar international organization or non-governmental organization is required.
Languages:English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, EnglishandArabic are required.
