Org. Setting and Reporting:This position is located in the Agricultural Development Unit (ADU) of the Division of Production, Productivity and Management (DPPM). The Research Assistant reports to the Chief of the Unit. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Responsibilities:Within delegated authority, the Research Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:Monitors processes and schedules related to the unit’s outputs, products, tasks, etc.Researches, compiles and organizes information and reference materials from various sources for reports, work plans, studies, briefings, meetings/conferences, etc. related to the unit’s work areas, with a focus on food systems, digitalization, bioeconomy and productive development.Generates a variety of standard statistical and other reports, using various databases.Proofreads documents and edits texts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation and style, and for adherence to established standards for format.Assists in the maintenance of websites by scanning, converting and posting a variety of documents onto the site.Assists in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software.Performs data entry and extraction functions.Maintains files and databases for work unit.Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, knowledge management, planning and decision making.Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.Performs other related work as required.

Education:High school diploma or equivalent is required. NOTE: For positions in the General Service category, candidates are required to clearly indicate in their Applicant Profile (AP) relevant information confirming completion of High School.

Work Experience:At least three (3) years of experience in collecting and researching data across various areas of social and economic development or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first level university degree or higher. Working experience on food systems, digitalization, bioeconomy and productive development is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages:English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, EnglishandSpanish are required.
