For every child, the right to Education In the Pacific we work in Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu: These 14 Pacific island countries are home to 2.3 million people, including 1.2 million children and youth, living on more than 660 islands and atolls stretching across 17.2 million square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean, an area comparable to the combined size of the United States of America and Canada. Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu are classified as Fragile States according to World Bank/OECD criteria. The Pacific Multi-Country Office is the oldest and largest MCO in UNICEF. As such it is a model for the new MCOs being established. All 14 Pacific Island countries and territories have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, but only a third are on track with reporting obligations. UNICEF's programme focuses on advancing children's rights and wellbeing through integrated efforts in health, nutrition, education, child protection, climate resilience, and social policy—addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing small island developing states, including vulnerability to climate change, geographic isolation, and service delivery constraints. How can you make a difference? Under the supervision of the Education Manager, the Education Officer (Climate Resilience) will support implementation of UNICEF's resilient education agenda on issues relating to climate change and disaster risk reduction in multiple countries across the Pacific as well as harnessing opportunities for regional coordination. S/he will work closely across the Education team, including the multi-country office and Field Offices, and with other relevant sections including WASH, Supplies, ECD and Climate and Emergency. If you would like to know more about this position, please review the complete Job Description here: Education Officer - Job Description.pdf To qualify as a champion for every child you will have... - Education:Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or any other related fields. - Work Experience:2 years of relevant work experience in Programme planning, Management, Research in Education, or any other related fields. - Skills:Programme planning and development; Programme management and monitoring; Research, data analysis and reporting; Partnership building and Coordination; Technical understanding of climate-resilient education. - Language Requirements:Fluency in English is required. - Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language. - Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset. - Experience in working with government, UN, private sector and other partners to promote climate priorities, including in humanitarian contexts. - Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset. - Experience managing education programmes at global, regional and/or multi-country levels. - Experience working in the Pacific or any SIDS context. - Experience of working in more than one country on education programming.
