## Associate Economic Affairs Officer, Stock Exchange Sustainability, 2 posts (Temporary Job Opening), Geneva, Switzerland - Organization:UNCTAD - United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Organizational Setting and Reporting These positions are located in the Sustainable Stock Exchanges Programme (SSEP) of Division on Investment and Enterprise (DIAE) at the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Associate Economic Affairs Officers report to the Chief of Programme. Within delegated authority, the incumbents will be responsible for the following: Economic and/or sector analysis: - Collects, contributes to research evaluating, interpreting, analysing specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information obtained from a variety of sources and pertaining to responsible investment for sustainable development, including on the role of sustainable stock exchanges. - Maintains databases and programmes for database management and organizes non-quantitative information on responsible investment for sustainable development. - Prepares inputs to briefing notes, speeches and similar material on responsible investment for sustainable development issues in a form that is meaningful to non-specialists. - Prepares first drafts of or components of analytical studies on responsible investment issues and policies. - Contributes to awareness raising campaigns through social media and other means. - Assists in the organization and servicing of informal expert group meetings, seminars and events. Technical cooperation: - Compiles and analyses the data and other information necessary for the preparation of technical cooperation project proposals in the area of investment for sustainable development. - Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and on-line training projects. - Supports and contributes to monitoring, backstopping and assessing the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and on-line training projects. Other: - Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the unit’s work programme on technical training. - Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally. - Professionalism: Ability to collect, evaluate, interpret, analyse specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information obtained from a variety of sources and pertaining to responsible investment for sustainable development. Knowledge of database applications, understanding the functioning of databases, manage information contained therein and produce analyses. Knowledge of stock exchange practices, including sustainable finance. Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations. Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in economics, finance, public policy, sustainable development, climate science or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Job - Specific Qualification A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related is required. Experience as per the above in investment issues is desirable. Experience working with stock exchange officials and security market regulators in the application of sustainable finance principles is desirable. Experience providing training on stock exchange sustainability and managing stock exchange sustainability databases is desirable. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. Knowledge of French as per the below level is desirable. Either RussianorArabicorSpanishorChinese (Mandarin) is also desirable. The table below shows the minimum required level for each skill in these languages, according to the UN Language Framework (please consult https://languages.un.org for details). Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by a competency-based interview. These positions are of temporary nature and based on project funds. The positions are initially available for six (6) months with possibility of extension and starting as soon as possible. The extension of the appointment is subject to the satisfactory performance and availability of post and funds. Candidates should have no expectation of any fixed-term appointment possibility after the end of this temporary assignment. If the selected candidate is an internal staff member of the UN Secretariat, the selection will be recorded as a temporary assignment. Subsequent to the initial temporary appointment, new and successive temporary appointments may be granted for service in the same office or in a different office any number of times, for any duration, provided that the length of service does not exceed the period of 364 calendar days. Upon separation from service, including, but not limited to, expiration or termination of, or resignation from, a fixed-term, continuing or permanent appointment, a former staff member will be ineligible for re-employment on the basis of a temporary appointment for a period of 31 days following the separation. In the case of separation from service on retirement, a former staff member will be ineligible for re-employment for a period of three months following the separation. This equally applies, mutatis mutandis, with respect to a former or current staff member who has held or holds an appointment in another entity applying the United Nations Staff Regulations and Rules and who applies for a temporary position with the Secretariat. A current staff member who holds a fixed-term, permanent or continuing appointment may apply for temporary positions no more than one level above his or her current grade. However, a current staff member who holds an appointment at the G-6 or G-7 level may also apply to temporary positions in the Professional category up to and including the P-3 level, subject to meeting all eligibility and other requirements for the position. A staff member holding a temporary appointment shall be regarded as an external candidate when applying for other positions and may apply for other temporary positions at any level, subject to section 5.7 below and staff rule 4.16 (b) (ii). Therefore, a staff member holding a temporary appointment in the General Service or related categories may only apply to positions within those categories.
