## ASSOCIATE INTERPRETER, RUSSIAN/UKRAINIAN, Vienna, Austria - Organization:OHCHR - Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights - Office:Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Vienna Organizational Setting and Reporting This position is within the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, based in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Secretariat of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine. Within delegated authority, the Associate Interpreter will be responsible for the following duties: - Provides accurate translation and simultaneous interpretation, as required, from English to Russian or Ukrainian and vice versa, while integrating a gender perspective, especially in relation to gender sensitive use of language and documentation of sexual and gender-based violence; - Maintains strict security and confidentiality of information; - Participates in field missions and interprets interviews of victims, witnesses and sources. - Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. - Performs other related duties as required. PROFESSIONALISM: Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to particular sector, functional area or other specialized field. Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems. Ability to conduct data collection using various methods. Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and analysis, including familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the Internet, intranet and other databases. Ability to apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities. Shows pride in work and in achievements; demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results; is motivated by professional rather than personal concerns; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges; remains calm in stressful situations; and takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work. Advanced university degree in translation, interpretation, languages, or a related field. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Job - Specific Qualification A minimum of 2 years of work experience in translation and/or interpretation, including as part of academic research work, is required; Out of the 2 years, one year of work experience in the above areas within the United Nations Common Systems is desirable; Experience in providing translation or interpretation during investigations or on human rights-related subjects is desirable. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. RussianandUkrainian are required. The table below shows the minimum required level for each skill in these languages, according to the UN Language Framework (please consult https://languages.un.org for details). Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
