Organizational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) was established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability, and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations of the Fund. UNJSPF administers benefits of more than 90,000 beneficiaries residing in more than 190 countries, paid in 18 currencies, and services more than 130,000 participants who work in the 25 member organizations of UNJSPF. The Fund has offices in New York (United States) and Geneva (Switzerland) and two liaison offices in Nairobi (Kenya) and Bangkok (Thailand), respectively. The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund-Pension Administration (UNJSPF-PA) comprises about 282 staff from diverse countries and cultures, based across four prominent duty stations (New York, Geneva, Bangkok, and Nairobi). This position is part of the Communication Team of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF, the Fund) and reports to the Public Information Officer, Pension Administration. In collaboration with the Office of Investment Management, the incumbent supports the implementation of the overall communication strategy of the Fund. He/she also works in close collaboration with the Client Services Service of UNJSPF to ensure that clients have access to clear, correct and useful information regarding pension matters, including for participation and financial entitlements from the Fund.
Within delegated authority, the Public Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
- Assist in creating key communication products for the UNJSPF internal and external communication through research and drafting of basic text in English and French or Spanish.
- Support the development and implementation of the UNJSPF social media strategy.
- Monitor the success of website, intranet and social media posts based on analytics and review new tools and best practices in view of their implementation.
- Monitor social media outlets on accounts and topics of interest to the Fund.
- Support development of website’s automated translation service into UN official languages and layout updates working in collaboration with the Fund’s Information Management Systems Service and UNICC.
- Develop monthly and annual communications reports with key communication data, metrics and findings.
- Develop content for the UNJSPF intranet, including interviews with staff, summaries of meetings, updates on key projects and initiatives, contests and social activities.
- Post news and update relevant web pages on the intranet.
- Manage the UNJSPF Communications mailbox in accordance with standard operating procedure
- Support the development of presentations and other communication materials for the Chief Executive as required.
- Ensure document management of communication team’s archive.
- Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
- Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job - Specific Qualification
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in public communication, international broadcasting or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level degree or higher. Experience with developing graphic materials and visuals for websites, publications and/or social media platforms is required. Experience with managing social media channels is required. Experience with layout of publications in English and French is required. Proficiency with or certification in desk publishing software is desirable. Experience in international organizations is desirable. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. French is desirable. This position is available for 364 days subject to availability of funding. This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules.
